Becoming a Leader We Need with Strategic Intelligence

A two-day workshop

Trainer: Dr. Michael Maccoby

In a changing world, leaders are needed to adapt organizations, respond to threats and opportunities and create collaboration among a diverse workforce. This requires Strategic Intelligence, including foresight, the ability to partner with others, effective use of systems thinking to envision a positive future, and engagement with followers to inspire them and draw on their motivation to implement a vision. Effective leaders understand both themselves and other collaborators. Above all, leaders, and those who would be leaders, need to develop themselves and their strategic skills in order to meet the needs of all their stakeholders.

By the end of this workshop, students will have a better understanding of the current context of leadership, the qualities of mind and heart required to gain willing followers and to lead change for the common good. They will have an enhanced understanding of themselves and the values that motivate others. And they will practice developing and communicating a leadership philosophy.

In this workshop, we will explore:

  1. HOW THE CONTEXT OF LEADERSHIP HAS CHANGED.
    • The changing mode of production.
    • Changes in social structure.
    • Movement from Bureaucratic to Interactive social character.
    • Social Character Questionnaire.
  2. STRATEGIC INTELLIGENCE.
    • Components of strategic intelligence.
    • Motivating people from different cultures.
    • Why and how do people follow the leader?
    • Understanding resistance.
  3. PERSONALITY INTELLIGENCE.
    • Personality as a system.
    • Identity.
    • Interpreting the Personality Type Questionnaire results.
    • The Caring personality.
    • The Exacting/Obsessive personality.
    • The Self-Developing/Marketing personality.
    • The Visionary/Narcissistic personality.
    • Productive mixed types.
    • Developing the heart.
  4. DEVELOPING A PHILOSOPHY OF LEADERSHIP.
    • Leadership philosophy and social character.
  5. PERSONAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
    • Recognizing personal strengths.
    • Planning for development.

The workshop will be highly interactive with group discussions, self-assessments, opportunities for personal reflection, and the development of personal action plans.
