Attend a two-day workshop on

Becoming a Leader We Need

based on the book, The Leaders We Need: And What Makes Us Follow, by Michael Maccoby

led by Michael Maccoby

Description

We are in a time of great cultural change where people need leaders to take them to a positive future. But people distrust leaders, their integrity and competence. To become the kind of leader who will gain willing followers, you must master three interrelated developmental goals. The first is to understand yourself and the people you want to lead. Second, you need to develop a clear leadership philosophy that includes the purpose of your leadership, the practical values essential to achieving that purpose, and the moral reasoning that guides your decisions. And the third is to develop your strategic intelligence, including foresight, partnering, visioning with systems thinking, motivating and empowering your followers and collaborators to realize the vision.

The effective practice of leadership at this time—adapting organizations, making key decisions, developing human potential—depends on developing these three qualities.

At the completion of the workshop, you can expect to better understand:

  • Your personality and how your deepest values influence your sense of purpose and practice of leadership
  • How the changing context of leadership—from industrial to knowledge work, from bureaucratic to interactive social character, from bureaucracy to collaboration—changes the model of leadership that gains willing followers.
  • How to understand the people you lead by developing your Personality Intelligence, both psychological concepts and a heart that listens.
  • How to develop your leadership philosophy and strategic intelligence.
  • How to design an action plan to build on what you have learned and continue your leadership development.

What people have said about the workshop

Excellent discussions. The topic of strategic leadership/intelligence I found to be very useful. I was happy with all aspects of this workshop. I really enjoyed the group discussions that were triggered by the workshop topics. Really excellent group participation. Dr. Maccoby was a great facilitator of these discussions.

Dr. Maccoby helps us understand leadership using the most holistic point of view that I have seen about finding purpose and meaning in our lives and others, and translating it to leading together towards the common good.

First two-day seminar that was not at all boring but very very meaningful, insightful and interesting.

It really presents areas not really approached in a semester long leadership course I took in grad school.

It's great to participate in a workshop with interesting people and a bona-fide expert in the subject.

Professor is clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about the topic and "ever-learning." Impressive

Excellent to have examples and insights from such a wide range of sources - philosophy, politics, business, religion. Very human.

"The workshop was both an honor to participate in and an opportunity to learn more about the most cutting edge work in leadership development being done today."

"I learned a lot. The time was well spent for me."

"I really enjoyed the 2 days and personally got a lot out of the course."
