Richard Margolies, Ph.D.Dr. Margolies, a Vice President of the Maccoby Group, is a psychologist who assists leaders with strategy, culture change, and leadership development. He assists executives in building a strategic team so they lead their organization as an aligned system, instead of managing independent and often competitive stovepipes. This means reducing bureaucracy, and creating an interactive culture based on collaboration. A colleague of Michael Maccoby for 34 years, he was principal research associate on Why Work: Leading and Motivating The New Generation, Michael Maccoby, revised edition, Miles River Press, 1996. This study shows how leaders can engage today's workforce in the new organization required by knowledge and service work. Dr. Margolies was a principal research fellow on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-funded study on leadership in exemplary healthcare organizations. The report, "Leadership for Healthcare in the Age of Learning", is available on our website. Dr. Margolies has consulted for over 15 years to the senior leadership of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He wrote the Corps' Learning Organization Doctrine. He designed and teaches the Corps' leadership seminar based on that doctrine, Leadership for Learning, which is available on our website for those in the Corps who want to sign up for this seminar. This leadership seminar can also be customized for the values and strategy of other organizations. The seminar can be taught on your site, whether you are in the Corps or another organization. He has consulted to city government leaders on optimizing city services using IT, including the redesign of work processes. For the City of Denver he assisted the mayor and senior executives on leadership and organization to move from bureaucracy to e-government. He advised the technology department of the City of Seattle on how to build a new IT organizational culture based on service and collaboration. Dr. Margolies coaches academic and administrative executives at Loyola College of Maryland on being more effective strategic and operational leaders. Dr. Margolies designs and conducts retreats and seminars customized to leaders and their organizations. He coaches executives on their leadership challenges and aspirations, and consults on the strategy of organizational change.
